About Kailua, Oahu
Kailua is one of those rare places that earns every superlative thrown at it, and still manages to feel like a secret.
Tucked along Oahu's windward coast, just 12 miles northeast of Honolulu yet unmistakably a world apart, this community of roughly 40,000 residents lives between two of the most breathtaking natural features on the island: the jade ridges of the Koolau mountains and the five-mile arc of Kailua Beach, named by Dr. Beach as the best beach in the nation. Its Hawaiian name, meaning "two seas" or "two currents," speaks to a place shaped by the ocean in every sense.
No resort towers, no shopping malls, no manufactured charm. What you'll find instead are family-run cafés, independent boutiques, morning paddlers heading toward the Mokulua islets, and neighbors who know each other's names. The trade winds keep the air perpetually alive. Spring is when Kailua is at its most radiant.

Beachside & Lanikai
Where prestige meets the Pacific
Running the length of North Kalaheo Avenue, the Beachside neighborhood represents Kailua at its most coveted. Homes here range from charming beachside cottages to expansive estates commanding direct frontage on Kailua Beach, with lot sizes averaging 10,000 to 12,000 square feet and select parcels exceeding an acre. Adjacent Lanikai, frequently photographed and rarely forgotten, is an exclusive enclave offering luxury residences with views of the twin Mokulua islets and one of the world's most pristine stretches of sand. One-way in, one-way out. Lanikai is deliberately, beautifully isolated.

Coconut Grove
Heart of Kailua, pulse of community
CoA neighborhood in the truest sense. Coconut Grove sits at the center of Kailua's social gravity, close to Honolulu and the H3, yet removed from its pace. Post-and-pier plantation-style homes define the streetscapes here. The architecture tells a story of old Hawaii, and the ohana spirit is alive and genuine.

Kailua Farmers' Market
📍 Kailua Town Center
609 Kailua Road, Kailua HI 96734
Every Thursday · 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
There may be no better single introduction to what makes Kailua special than a Thursday evening at the farmers' market. Organized by the Hawaii Farm Bureau, this weekly gathering draws local farmers, food producers, and artisan makers in a ritual that feels genuinely communal rather than merely commercial.
The market features only Hawaii-grown products: fresh produce, flowers, seafood, and ready-to-eat foods, from Asian greens and herbs to seared ahi, hand-pressed spring rolls, and fresh-baked goods. This is where Kailua residents stock up for the week, catch up with neighbors, and remind themselves exactly why they live here.
In spring, the produce is at its peak, and the community energy matches it perfectly.
